Street unrest that gripped France for nearly a week has shown signs of easing after a tragic incident, where a police officer fatally shot a teenager. Although the number of arrests has decreased significantly, the shooting remains a deeply divisive issue that has amplified existing concerns about racism and inequality in the country. Drawing comparisons to the global reaction following George Floyd’s murder, France is now facing its own profound societal crisis.

The incident of a car being rammed into the home of a Paris suburb mayor has only intensified the debate and underlined the urgent need for social cohesion.
