Rising Star Rose Zhang Continues to Shine on the Golfing Stage

Rose Zhang, the 20-year-old golf prodigy, demonstrated her exceptional skills once again with a top-ten finish at the recent Amundi Evian Championship in France. This marks the third time this season that Zhang has claimed a spot within the top 10 at a major tournament.

In her final round, Zhang concluded with a flourish, achieving birdie-birdie on the 17th and 18th holes to card an impressive 3-under 68. Finishing the championship at 5-under, Zhang’s performance was overshadowed only by the commanding victory of Celine Boutier, the worthy title winner on her home soil.

Reflecting on her finish, Zhang expressed her satisfaction, stating, “It’s amazing. You always love ending a good round in a little bit of style. I was really happy that I was able to convert those putts. Any putt out here is not a given, so the fact that the ball was going in the hole, I was really satisfied.”

Zhang’s accomplishments in the world of women’s golf have made her one of the standout stories of 2023. She established her dominance by securing a remarkable victory at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur just a week before the Masters. In her professional debut at the Mizuho Americas Open, Zhang triumphed in a playoff against Jennifer Kupcho, becoming the first woman in 72 years to win her first professional start.

Building on her sensational start, Zhang continued her impressive streak, earning a tie for 8th place at the Women’s PGA Championship at Baltusrol. She then went on to secure a ninth-place finish at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach before her recent performance in France.

Speaking about her journey, Zhang expressed her optimism, saying, “I feel like I’m on the right track in my mental space and navigating the entire tour life. I still feel like I have so much more improvement ahead of me, which I am excited for in terms of the learning curve and growth development.”

With each tournament, the likelihood of Zhang capturing her first major championship grows. Her next opportunity will arise at the AIG Women’s British Open, held from August 10-13 at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England. Notably, Zhang tied for 28th at the 2022 edition of the tournament, earning the low amateur honors.

While her previous appearances at the British Open did not yield the desired results, Zhang’s confidence and game have matured significantly since then. Aligning her focus and executing her game plan, Zhang remains determined to challenge the golf course and contend against the world’s best players.
