Escalating Tensions: U.S.-Led Coalition Base in Syria Targeted by Rocket Attack

A military base in Syria, part of a U.S.-led coalition battling militants in the region, was struck by a rocket attack on Sunday, as reported by the Iraqi Security Media Cell. Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, confirmed that at least one rocket hit the base, marking the third attack on the site within a 24-hour period. The extent of the casualties, if any, is currently unknown.

In response to the attack, Iraqi forces have initiated a comprehensive search and inspection operation in the western Nineveh area near the Syrian border, with the aim of capturing the perpetrators. This is in accordance with a statement released by the Iraqi Security Media Cell.

Although the Islamic Resistance in Iraq did not explicitly claim responsibility for the strike, the group expressed its intention to resume military operations against U.S. troops following the recent visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to the United States. In a statement on Telegram, the militant group issued a three-month ultimatum to negotiate the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.

The incident in Syria followed an explosion at a base in Iraq controlled by the Popular Mobilization Forces, an alliance of Iran-allied militias. This explosion resulted in the loss of one life and the injury of eight individuals, according to the Associated Press. The United States disclaimed any involvement in this particular incident.
